Cinco de mayo
Happy Cinco de Mayo and Welcome Back! Instead of focusing on the traditional foods and drinks of Mexican American culture that are often advertised in recognition of this date, let’s think about the origins of the celebration.
The 5th of May is historically a day of celebration commemorating Mexico’s victory over the Second French Empire at the Battle of Puebla in Mexico City on May 5, 1862. Although the Mexican soldiers were outnumbered 2 to 1 by the French soldiers, they fought valiantly and defended their homeland, retaining their freedom at that time.
I can only imagine the level of strength, perseverance, and strategic planning the Mexican soldiers had to use to come out on top but somehow, they turned what may have seemed impossible into victory.
